I was very curious when I first got to know about this virtualization software called “Virtualbox“.
At that time knowing about a single Pc running two Operating systems using this simple software was like magic.
And after knowing that, I started surfing on the internet & tried different OS which can be installed using this software.
Like Android, Linux, Windows XP/7/8/10 and the best macOS.
And now I am here installing this Google Chromium OS on Virtualbox.
So in this post, I will show you how to install & run Chromebook Chrome OS in VirtualBox on Windows 10.
Let’s see How.
Install Chrome OS on VirtualBox Virtual Machine
But before we begin.
Please make sure you have downloaded the Oracle VirtualBox & Chromium OS ISO or .ova file from the given link.

Now I hope you have downloaded the files. So Let’s get started…
Note: Please make sure the Virtualization feature is Enabled in your BIOS Settings.
1. Install & Open VirtualBox
Download & install VirtualBox on Windows 10 properly. And then Open it by Right-Clicking on it & select the Run as administrator.
2. Import Chrome OS On VirtualBox
Import the downloaded Chromium Os file in VirtualBox by double-clicking on it. Or you can also click on File and then select Import Appliance… to import chrome OS.
3. Configuring Virtual Machine
After importing the ChromeOS file, a dialog box will appear showing all the default Appliance setting which are suitable for this OS. Now just click on the Import button & it will start importing with the default settings.
4. Start & Install Chromium OS On VirtualBox
Now Click on Start and it will start installing ChromeOS on VirtualBox.
Wait for 2 mins & it will show up on a CloudReady screen after installation.
Now Click on Continue & the next screen will ask for Adobe Flash EULA installation. So click on Accept and install to install it properly.
Now Sign in to your Chromebook with your Google Account.
And now choose a picture for the sign-in screen.
And Done! You have successfully installed the Chromium OS on VirtualBox.
5. Update Chromium OS
Now Click on the Chromium taskbar icon and the Open Chromium Browser.
Now Go to settings, then Click on About ChromeOS and it will start updating it.
That’s it! Enjoy Chromium OS on your PC.

WHAT’S CENTOS?
CentOS (Community Enterprise Operating System) is a Linuxdistribution based on Unix that provides a 100% free, open-source,enterprise-class operating system — An overwhelming number of communitymembers have adopted and supported the platform since March 2004.
It’s a free clone of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux. And although it’s a distribution aimed at business and enterprise users for their servers, unlike Red Hat Linux, it’s free! Which means you can use it too, though without the active and direct support of the CentOS team.
WHAT’S VIRTUALBOX?
Developed by Oracle…
VirtualBox (VB) is a free open source, cross-platformvirtualization software.
- It allows you to run more than one operatingsystem (read: virtual machine VM) on your laptop.
- And lets it run in a virtual environment as a Guest Operating System.
That’s right, so long as the primary OS in your laptop canhandle it, you can wind up as many virtual machines of any desired OS you want.
Supported operating systems include: Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, macOSX, Linux, Solaris and OpenSolaris.
WHY WE’RE USING VIRTUALBOX AS OUR VM
There are TONS of uses for a virtualmachine (VM)…
Fundamentally, we like that it eliminates the need to buynew hardware if you want to try an operating system (OS) like CentOS.
A VM like VirtualBox lets you do so without the risk ofscrewing up an install or dual-boot. Youcan even use a VM to mess with risky software or hacks without the threat ofjeopardizing your laptop.

- Runsa variety of guest operating systems
- Andit’s compatible with good access to hardware including: sound, USB, and serial ports
HOW TO INSTALL VIRTUALBOX
Before you can install CentOS on VirtualBox, you’ll need todownload VirtualBox onto your laptop if you don’t already have it.
Don’t worry, there are only 3 steps in this section, whichhave been detailed for you.
Step 1: Head over to the VirtualBox download page.
Step 2: Downloadthe right version for your primary Operating System.
Step 3: Then,download the installer as normal (if you see a window dialogue asking toinstall a driver, go ahead and allow it).
And that’s it!
The VirtualBox main screen will look like this…
Now, the virtual hard disk you’re about to create will be20GB or bigger.
By default, VirtualBox saves virtual machine information inyour user folder.
But if you have two drives (like a solid-state drive (SSD)and a mechanical hard drive (MHD)), you’ll likely want to save it in the drivethat offers more space.
Just go to: File > Settings in VirtualBox where you’ll see a Default Machine Folder field on the General tab. If you don’t like where the virtual machine information is, click Other in the drop-down menu to change it.
HOW TO DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL CENTOS ON VIRTUALBOX IN WINDOWS 10
Finally, the long-awaited CentOS 7 is released!
And now comes the fun part: installing CentOS ontoVirtualBox. This section has a total of9 steps and we’re right here to carefully walk you through each of them.
Step 1: How toInstall Centos ISO on Virtualbox
You’ll need to download the CentOS 7 ISO for VirtualBox.
There’s a DVD ISO anda Minimal ISO.
The minimal install is on only 636MB versus the 4GB of theDVD ISO. It’s a bare-bones install thatwill allow you to customize the environment exactly the way you want.
But it doesn’t come with the windows manager or developmenttools. So, in this example, we’re goingwith the DVD ISO.
Step 2: It’s Timeto Create a New Virtual Machine
Click New on the VirtualBox image page.
Step 3: Fill Outthe Name and Operating System for the new VM
Enter the following details:
Name: Somethingunique that you can easily identify.
Type: Linux
Version: Dependingon the VB image file version you downloaded, select Red Hat (64bit) or Red Hat(32bit).

Step 4: Allocatethe Desired Memory Size
Click Next and onthe next screen is where you get to decide how much RAM you want to set asidefor CentOS – kind of like how your primary OS requires a certain amount ofmemory to operate.

The exact amount to allocate depends on how much RAM yourlaptop has – a general rule of thumb is half your laptop’s RAM.
This number is represented in megabytes MB.
For example: If your laptop has 8GB and you want to give 4GBto the VM, multiplying 4GB by 1024 gives you 4,096MB.
You can use the slider or simply type in the value you want to assign to the VM like so…
Step 5: Now It’sTime to Create a Virtual Hard Disk
The VM needs a place to store data.
Click Next again and select Create a virtual hard disk now.
Step 6: Choose a Virtual Hard Disk
Select VDI (Virtual Disk Image) and click Next.
Step 7: Decide How the Virtual Hard Disk will Operate
Dynamically allocatedonly takes up the amount of space you create for the VM and won’t shrink iteven if the VM winds up not using up that much room.
Fixed size hasthe advantage of some slight speed increases because of its larger initialsize.
We chose Dynamically allocated so that the virtual hard disk will grow accordingly with how much we fill the virtual machine instead of grabbing all the space we’re about to assign.
Step 8: Specify aDisk Location and Size
You can leave the default name as is or change it to anything you choose. For the virtual hard drive size we entered 40GB, then click Create.
Step 9: You’veSuccessfully Created a Virtual Machine!
Now, just select CentOS 7 and click Start to power on your virtual machine.
HOW TO INSTALL CENTOS ON VIRTUALBOX AND START THE VIRTUALMACHINE
Can you feel it…
In a few moments you’ll be able to use CentOS 7 on yourlaptop. There’s only 5 steps in thissection – then you’ll be good to go.
Step 1: From the BootMenu…
Select Install CentOS Linux 7 and press Enter.
Step 2: SelectYour Desired Language

Below is the first page of the CentOS 7 installation. Choose your preferred language.
Step 3: Set Allthe Installation Options
These will be things like your time settings, location, and network. After you’re done, click Begin Installation.
Step 4: While theInstallation is Going On…
Set the Root and User Account. Once the installation is complete, click Reboot.
Step 5: After theReboot…
Accept the license and connect to a network.
And that’s it, you’re done!
