I have an older version iMac from late 2009 that is running MAC OS 10.6.8. I want to upgrade it to the latest operating system I can; I believe that it can go all the way to OS 10.11 Sierra, but would be satisfied with getting it to either Yosemite or El Capitan. However, the Apple Store will not allow my system to upgrade directly without being at 10.7, and I cannot find any way to allow my system to go from 10.6.8 to any of the intermediate OS versions.

-- I have searched many sites and community threads that give a lot of great information, but there is nothing that has a direct link or set of instructions that show what to do actually to upgrade my computer.

-- Confusing for me, there are many threads for upgrading MAC OS 10.6.8 systems to either Yosemite or El Capitan, BUT those links go right to the App Store and they only support Sierra; there is no way I can see to access Yosemite or El Capitan as an option.

-- There is a page on Apple Support that is for older models and operating systems, and has OS 10.6.8 listed, but when you go to the upgrade link, it's list of starting OS systems to upgrade begin with 10.7.

I am stuck trying to make the leap; is there anyone who has had a similar problem or can give me link or set of directions. Any help is much appreciated.
